I believe that couldn't be farther from the truth. Are female lawyers at increased risk from the Hollywood sterotypes too. [/ QUOTE ] Actually I said the opposite. Hollywood shows it, people believe it, it harms nurses in general. Andrew Lopez, RN http://www.4nursing.com |

OMG that's a real stretch. Are you saying because some nurse is portrayed as sexy another nurse won't go into the field. [/ QUOTE ] The way nurse are portrayed, is directly responsible for how patients, employers, physicians treat them. The poor pay, lack of respect and working conditions they have are directly affected by how people perceive them. Improve working conditions, a lot more nurses will return to the bedside and encourage others to go into the field. That didn't require very much stretching. I had an aunt that thought nurses were sluts just because she thought nurses had access to birth control. Flornce Nightengale had STD from sleeping with the wounded soldiers, so the story goes. [/ QUOTE ] Lately, we're doing ok as far as honorability goes. A matter of trust, Nurseweek.com:"Public continues to regard nurses highly in honesty and ethics. The results of the annual CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll ranking the American public's perception of the honesty and ethical standards of professions were released earlier this month. This year, firefighters and the military were added to the list and were ranked first and third, respectively. Nurses, who made the list for the first time three years ago, ranked second. Police and pharmacists rounded out the top five." http://www.nurseweek.com/ednote/01/121701a.html Andrew Lopez, RN http://www.4nursing.com |
