Do you mean like eating their young?I've seen it over and over many times. I'm 23 myself. The smoking.....I guess its their bodies and as long as its not affecting patient care and the patients can't smell it, they will do as they please. It's none of my business. I know nurses who smoke and I'm okay with that. Acting tough, depends upon the situation. What example can you give us?

Re: Female Nurses Smoking and being tough

I am a smoker- it in no way affects my ability to take good care of my patients. As long as I make sure I don't come back in smelling like an ashtray, what I do on my break has no bearing on my job performance. As far as female nurses "acting tough" & "acting like a man would act," I feel that just because a nurse doesn't walk around acting all girly, that does not mean that she is "acting tough" or isn't a caring & compassionate person. I work in the ER, where it is necessary sometimes to have a thick skin & be "tough," (dealing with drunks, drug seekers, etc.), but I am also able to be sensitive & compassionate when the situation calls for it. I think it's more about being adaptable to what the situation requires.

Hey amanda i read your post, thank you for your response and some insight, i am girly and just thought what everyone else things, i know people who smoke most of the nurses where i am at smoke, seems like a tread, and you havnt meet my manager, she acts like a man, someone has even said it to her face, she smokes and carries on but shes very nice even to me, but i was upset last time when she offered at lunch time to take my plate when i pulled a chair in as soon as i went to sit down she blew smoke from her cigarette and it landed right in my face beside it that was the last straw so i moved somewhere else, since then she hasnt done it to me because i dont want smoke in my food i wont tolarate that, i have to eat it, just cause u guys want to smoke and ruin your own health dont put it on us, we dont want health issues as well,
