CNS in the ED

Hello Everyone! I'm interested in your experiences/opinions with having a CNS/Educator in the emergency department. I currently work in a Trauma ICU and took a position as a Trauma CNS. The position will include both the TICU and the Trauma portion of the ED. I have tons of trauma experience but havn't worked in the ED in my hospital before. Just looking for your perspective as ED nurses! Any thoughts/experiences/advice would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!

As an ER/Trauma nurse, I would think your ICU Trauma experience should be enough to be an educator in the ER- you already know all about all the procedures that typically are done in a Trauma situation- chest tubes, art lines, etc, etc.... The only thing I would reccommend is to get your TNCC if you don't already have it, & "sit in" on as many traumas as you can- just to observe & learn how things are in a trauma situation as opposed to the (usually) more controlled setting of the ICU.
