Re: Waaaahhhh! I don't guess. You either write it so I can read it, type it, put it in the computer yourself or you get a call... But I didn't even have to call the other day I asked the doc to read me the orders because I can't read her writing and she doesn't understand English and I don't understand Philippino accented English when she said BNP and I said BMP and she said yes BMP she wanted the BNP but she wrote (it looked like) and sounded like BMP so not a biggie thing it could have been with a drug mix up but could have been an important lab result (I guess if it was such a big important one she would have ordered it stat instead of the next day) We're now doing peer chart reviews and it does have on the form can you read all of the nurses notes. And did the MD use a banned abbreviation and was it corrected within an hour. Part of that comes from knowing what you order ours orders MgSO4 for labor patients not MS but we can't write them among other days...but I did have a nurse of 5 years ask me a few weeks ago what AC means....I thought that was one of the first tests in nursing school. But then I"m not paid to think

Re: Waaaahhhh! on the other hand, DH and I were out to eat last weekend and in walked 1 of the OB's I work with who is a real hard a-- (he has gotten a bit better since a new partner has come in that most of us don't care for) but I introduced him to DH and the doc says I really enjoy working with your wife she's a wonderful nurse and went on and on. At work Monday he said I hope I it was ok what I said to your husband because you are good....well knock me over. But he is one that if you're good you're good and it's expected and if you're bad he goes off and just goes straight to the manager and tells her what a goof you are.

Re: Waaaahhhh! As long as there is a thread to talk about doctors this thing will go on for ever. We gave one of our cardiologists a crayon for his birthday for writing orders. By the way, I was looking at a few web sites on nursing hx. Did you know women were the first doctors and men were the first nurses. I have found women doctors are much better to deal with, I have not seen much GOD syndrome in women as bad as with men, and they have better hand writing.

Re: Waaaahhhh! I'm ready for another vacation. I just got back and worked the last 3 days (12 hours) and am about ready to choke a few people..(not really but wish I could)Wed and Today I didn't sit for more then a hour total both days and not much more yesterday. We've beem overly busy and then had students sitting in the few chairs we have doing nothing while the nurses stand and chart and also anthesia docs that can't do an epidural...the MD's we have are usless at tits on boar hogs. Send me a CRNA anyday ours are wonderful. I went off on them all today and the student told the boss but I told the boss too and was an inch away from telling them where to put it and keep this student (who's worked 4 days on our unit and acts like she knows everything and has RNitis already and is still in school) Ok basic *****ing and moaning done for today I don't go back till Monday then only work a few more days till I get another beach vacation.

Re: Waaaahhhh! Per your Graemlin It works best with a smile!!!!!! Not with an angry face. Best used behind Doctors backs. Not used well to their faces.Employment is important! For a more pronounced version, swing finger upward from waist and with your other hand slap the biceps of the arm the finger is attached to. Gives a more convincing tone with stronger body language on how you feel.

Re: Waaaahhhh! This isn't a complaint about doctors. This is a whine about nurse managers. I work in the PACU. Sure we're not as specialized as the OR, but I like to think what we do is important and some what specialized. But our manager obviously thinks otherwise. A new person in our department gets six weeks of orientation. A RN from the OR, gets maybe a day and our manager thinks they are considered 'crosstrained'. So while I get to take care of 3 new surgicals, I also have to take care of the OR RN and her 1 new surgical cause she doesn't know what to, or doesn't feel comfortable doing it. These OR RN's are putting their licenses on the line, but our manager doesn't see that, since there is an 'experienced' PACU nurse present. I just felt I had to voice my frustration cause I'm really getting tired of playing with fire.
