Re: Taking Christ out of christmas?

Actually, no. Our country was founded upon the principles of conquest and acquisition.

Re: Taking Christ out of christmas?

I hate to sound like a geek, but I just love the Wikipedia Site.

IMHO, it would be incorrect to take Christ out of Christmas. To do such would go against the actual meaning ... Christ's mass. BTW, I always thought that the use of Xmas was disrespectful. However, I will now possibly think otherwise; The word Christmas is derived from Middle English Christemasse and from Old English Cristes męsse. It is a contraction meaning "Christ's mass". The name of the holiday is often shortened to Xmas because Roman letter "X" resembles the Greek letter Χ (chi), an abbreviation for Christ (Χριστός).

IMHO2, if a person that is not a Christian has a problem with Christmas [the true meaning], then they should just ignore same & leave us well enough alone. While watching television, if you don't like the program you just change the channel, right?

Re: Taking Christ out of christmas?

Every religion has their holidays and practices I see no reason to change the practices of one to fit in with the practices of another that's just silly. I'm also not real happy with those that don't "believe in Jesus" then also expect presents in Dec and eggs in the spring.

Re: Taking Christ out of christmas?

Its still a free country, it's still up to us, the parents to teach the real reason for Christmas. I think that may be one of the reasons that Christmas is a depressing time of year because its not about the celebration of the Birth of Jesus anymore. We have to teach our kids, starting when they are small, but they still get lots of presents ok? see ya Denna

I agree with the majority of the posters. What always got me is that my one aunt had a Jehovah's Witness TAKE VACATION during Christmas.....and everyone else be danged.
