In or out of Nursing?

Hi folks,
This is my first post.I've been out of nursing since I developed Chronic Fatigue Syn. w/ multiple sx then for "some unknown reason" I got depressed.Ha Ha.Now I'm being monitored by the IPN which is mainly for substance abusers.I get the feeling they do not know what to do w/ me.I do everything they say, everybody clears me and they say you're doing great;we'll get back to you.I've been going through this a long time.Just as I'm about to chuck it and go for a new career they give me something sort of positive to string me along. This is maddening.Anybody w/ similar somTextething? TextText

Re: In or out of Nursing?

I despise what nursing is. I fell for the ideal that I could possibly help someone in whatever small way and make a living at it. True I can make good money at this but at a terrible cost. It is heartbreaking and backbreaking and in my case spirit breaking. I hate a thing I once loved so much. I would rather work at a minimum wage, unchallinging piece of crap nothing job than be a nurse, and I was a good nurse for 14 years.I loved my Patients but I have grown to hate the whole healthcare profession due to the crap I had to put up with. My message is this "God bless all you nurses who are satisfied and happy with your jobs-may you preservere" but to all of you thinking of going in to this

I have a suggestion .. Get out for awhile. And I bet if you loved it once you will miss it.. No harm in trying.

I agree with wanderinRN. Get out before every thing you loved about nursing is lost. You must have had a bad experience. Get out for some time. There are good things in nursing and maybe you will start to miss them. I have known a few people that got out for 5 or so years then came back

Re: In or out of Nursing?

I am just kind of agravated right now. I like nursing..but I don't. I have been in for nearly 10 years. It is tough at times, and great at times. Right now I am looking for a job. My family wanted to move back home from Texas. So here we are back in Biloxi,MS. I got an opportunity to apply for a Government nursing job. I failed the physical due to Diabetic Neuropathy in my feet. The Neurologist had put me on Methadone for pain control. Otherwise, I suffer. It allowed me to work without feeling "High","drugged",or unable to perform my duties. I have worked with this and have done a good job. No complaints,no mistakes. Well, to make long story short, the doctor who failed me, never saw me.He only looked at paperwork. So this cost me a great job. I am so upset. I am gonna keep praying that I will get a decent job. I still think it was discrimination related to my illness. I have had 2 back surgeries, these were done before ever getting my RN. People told me I could not be a nurse. I think you can do what you can do. It really upsets me that a doctor who has never laid eyes on you can veto your job before giving you a chance.

yes...and i only graduated in 2000. i saw right away that administration does not back up the nurses; that they think that every patient who doesn't get what he wants when he wants it is going to sue; and for all their talk about needing nurses willing to cross-train or float, they sabatage (sp.?) those who want that. my mom died last year & left me a little money. i love nursing. i hate how nurses are treated and viewed by the PTBs. (sometimes i think it has to do with how we view ourselves: a patient told me, "i don't know who anyone is--you all look alike." food for thought.)

Have you ever heard of the disability laws. If they don't hire you because of a disablity ...and if you can do the job with reasonable accomidations...that is discrimination. Talk to an attorney..

Re: In or out of Nursing?

I have only been a nurse since 1999 and have been working in nursing homes the whole time and I have become really disgusted with the way I'm treated. A lot of the people I work with treat me like I'm stupid and I am not. I am a good nurse and know what I am doing. I am going to start a new job at a hospital nearby but I am really nervous about it. I do not really want to do nursing anymore but I feel I should give the hospital a try because it may be different. If it is not, I may just have to find another profession. Any thoughts?
