| Re: Nurse international recruitment? My hospital has paid for a number of nurses from India and Jamaica. Most of them are very good- intelligent, kind and professional (quite frankly more professional than some of my American colleagues!). However, there are a few that simply cannot speak English clearly and the patients have complained. Some are incompetent or need a lot of guidance for the first year. My only complaint about this situation is that we had a very healthy float pool staff, which the hospital decimated when they cut their pay-everybody quit. They spent over 250,000 dollars to obtain the foreign nurses! I live in a rural area, so many of the pool nurses would travel from hours away and stay for several days and work. Now we are terribly short every day/night. It sucks. The admin. is always cutting off it's (our!) nose to spite it's face! Never looks ahead. |
