Re: Funny Bush Joke

Still working on the next one, too. Any ideas?

At least we live in a country where we can lampoon/joke about things. I do Living History (Rev. War/French Fur Trade), and to joke about 'George the Mad' (King George III) was inviting real trouble.

I have to say something completely off the subject. When I was just a few weeks shy of graduation from nursing school an army recruiter showed up at my college and tried to entice all of us into joining the army as a nurse. Promising us all kinds of spectacular sign on bonuses, no boot camp, immediate rank as an officer...basically the world. I declined, when asked why in front of everyone, I was not interested I explained that I was the mother of a small child and that I did not want him to grow up without a mother because his mother died halfway across the world fighting for a cause that is ambiguous at best. The recruiter (and my director) then proceeded to harange me for my sentiments, and even saying (and I'll remember this until I die) "you don't really think they would put NURSES anywhere near any danger do you?"
Based on what you say, sounds like their incredulous attitudes were the ones that were naive and not mine.
But I am NOT putting down you for being there-its like peds nursing to me, someone has to do it, its just not going to be me.

You mentioned "no boot camp"? Although, new Army Nurse Corps [ANC] officers do not go to same basic training as enlisted recruits they do attend an Army Medical Dept officer basic training, which is referred to as Officer Basic Leadership Course.

Regards to ANC officers not being near any danger; Although, ANC officers are not assigned to infantry units as are the enlisted combat medics they are still deployed to combat zones. ANC officers have died in Iraq while assigned to a CSH D/T mortar rounds.

Regards to Operation Iraqi Freedom being "ambiguous" [adj; capable of being understood in more than one way] you have every right to your convictions. Besides, like you mentioned... someone has to do it. Me.

I do appreciate the overall excellent support the general public has for the US troops in harm's way in the Middle East.
