| Re: LPN to BSN Since you're planning to go through the LPN program first rather than enroll in a university for four years to get the BSN degree in the first place I'm guessing that time is important to you and you can't spend 4 years without making an income, is that right? If that's the case then you're taking a smart move by getting into the nursing profession by the quickest route first. I think most LPN programs are about 10 months in duration, am I close? Once you graduate and get your license be sure to ask prospective employers about their education benefits when you interview for jobs. Many health care employers actively help their employees advance their nursing careers by providing generous tuition assistance plans, reimbursement plans, educational grants, and work repayment plans to help their nursing staff further their nursing education. Once you're employed as an LPN and eligible for your employer's educational benefits then explore the available online LPN to BSN programs , get information about them, and select the one that best meets your needs. Between federal student aid, employer's education benefits and other means you can easily get your BSN in a timely manner while you work and earn a good living. In addition to the financial aid methods I mentioned above I should also mention that the National Guard also offers full tuition reimbursement that repays nursing education for those that accept a commission after graduating. Just wanted to mention that for any who might be interested because the training available through the Guard or Reserves for RN's is outstanding. If one joins the guard or reserve after getting their BSN it opens the door to letting the military pay completely to send you to CRNA school for example etc... Best wishes, Sara

| Junior Member | Re: LPN to BSN Here... info directly from college network-- LPN/LVN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing This new degree is the only completely distance-based RN training program in the country. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) can earn their NLNAC-accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree without ever stepping foot in a classroom. Use The College Network's comprehensive learning materials to test-out of up to 76 credit hours. In conjunction with Indiana State University, The College Network has also developed course material, in the form of Comprehensive Learning Modules for four courses in the online LPN to BSN degree program. Complete your nursing courses (generally 40 hours) online with Indiana State University. Length of program 2 to 4 years Does that help a bit? |

| HI! I'm an LVN from Texas. I've worked as a Nurse since 1999 specializing in OB/Gyn. I started out as a CNA,MA,PCA, Scrub Tech and now LVN. LVN's are not used in Labor and Delivery or as First Assistants in Surgery. I know that I have to complete my RN Degree to proceed. I have currently applied with Excelsior College for my Associate Degree. Texas does not acknowledge LVN to BSN. (I was told this from College Network). I also need financial assistance because high fees. I've recently had a baby and due to a complicated pregnancy, delivery and recovery (C/Section), My energy level has been pretty low. I also have a 12 year old (both girls). I read some of the messages posted in regards to LPN to BSN/ ; LPN vs RN. My wish is that no matter what your title is,we work together as a team. I have experienced negativity from some RN's. ON THE OTHER HAND, I've been blessed to work with TOP NOTCH RN's!!!! I've learned so much from them!!! They encourage me and I do the same for them. Starting from a CNA I learned to appreciate each position and became a sponge for knowledge. I know that whenever I finally get my RN- Degree, I will give back to others who are trying to reach their goal in nursing. Take care!!!! ![]() |
