| Is this a good plan in your opinion? Right now I'm in college trying to get my RN. The program was held back from fall to April this year. There are 50 spots offered every year and they're estimating that 500 students are trying for them. I have deacent grades, I'm taking the NLN next month and I do very well on standarized tests. I'm worried that I won't get into the program so I divised a back-up plan so I'm not sitting around for a year. I want to take the one year LNP course, the LPN takes 40 students 2 times a year. They allow LPNs in the RN program ahead of everyone else. The way I see it is that I'd rather be working in the nursing field as a LPN intead of sitting around in registration waiting for a chance to get in next year. What do you think? Is this a good idea, my advisor is off this quarter. |

| Hi there -- Of course, the answer depends upon your individual needs, etc. I had friends who were newly married, needing an income, who went for the LPN and worked as LPN until got into RN schooling. On the other hand, I was a single mother receiving housing, utility, schooling financial assistance, so I chose to attend school an extra year and take classes that would benefit me in nursing. Ex: healthcare administration, sociology of family, grieving and dying, drugs and alcohol, etc. Luckily I was accepted into program the next year, otherwise I might be doing something different right now. My goal was to get my bachelor's in nursing. LPN was not an option for me. Good luck to you. I know is difficult decision. |

| Re: Is this a good plan in your opinion? I think your plan demonstrates a high level of intelligence and common sense. It also allows you a "fail safe" your fellow students won't have just in case the campus program makes them wait -- the ability to do the online LPN to RN or BSN route if necessary. Here's an article about just that: Become An LPN - Fast Track into a Nursing Career
