RN Board Application vs. DUII diversion

Hello, I was told to wait until my DUII diversion was up (July) before applying for the NCLEX. Is anyone familiar with this?

It all depends on the regulations in the state where you are testing. If you apply to take the NCLEX and pass your record will be run. Chances are, if you get licensed you will be immediately placed into some kind of monitoring program of 3 to 5 years of urine testing, AA/NA, and nurse support.

If you are actively working on your recovery and already sincerely doing the above things then you should go ahead and apply because either way the BON in your state will find out sooner or later so it's best to deal with it now. Most importatntly be completely honest on your application. Don't hide anything as that will go worse for you.

I'm not trying to scare you, just fill you in on the realities you face. You can still be a nurse and still have a career but you have a tougher row to hoe from the beginning.

Peace and namaste
