Please give suggestions for jobs with narcotic/restrictions

Hello to all,
I truly found a new way to live through NA and with God's help on December 13, 2005. I worked as an ICU RN for many many years.....as so many of us did. Anyway!..... now I am looking for a job. My restrictions: can not dispense narcs for 9 more months, no OT, no call, can not be the only RN on duty, no travel/home health. Here is where I've been applying: blood bank positions, a doctors office, research position (although I have no experience in research) and I'd like to apply for a UR position. Oh, today I applied for a "threadmill registered nurse position" but I haven't been called to interview. CAN OTHERS PLEASE list the types of positions you've found possible to work with restrictions? Sometimes a little information or boost can be so HELPFUL. thank you.

I initially went to work as an admitting nurse at a psych hospital (the same one where I did my rehab) From there I have worked up to a charge nurse position. I have my narc priviliges back but don't pass meds (my choice) . My facility is very diversion friendly . Ask around your nurse support group for sugesstions.

Peace and Namaste

Working in an outpatient (chronic) dialysis unit would be a good choice. They generally don't even stock narcs so the restriction wouldn't be an issue. They also tend to hire new nurses with no dialysis experience because it's such a specialized area that it's often hard for them to find experienced people all the time. Plus, they're everywhere. It's worth a shot!

Good luck!!

Hi Happy. Just a question. Is it true that you have to pass narcs in your monitoring program for a period of time before you can graduate? Just curious.

Tom
Well I do know of some people in diversion who have graduated without ever having gone back to work at all. That normal progression in California seems to be non-patient care, patient care w/o narcs patient care, with narcs
It does appear that the diversion committee likes to see how you work with the stress and temptation of floor nursing. It's not that I don't do meds - I will if the need arises, but I have a medication nurse who works on my unit so I usually don't have to. I carry keys and do all the other aspects of full patient care. I never used/abuse narcs anyway I am a garden Variety Drunk but one never knows where the disease takes them when their defenses are down. To be honest since I turned my life over to a higher power I have not once had the urge to drink or use. so I guess I'm lucky.

Peace and Namaste

Re: Please give suggestions for jobs with narcotic/restrictions

Thank you everyone for the replies. Today I applied for a documentation specialist position, an occupation health position, and one more that slips my mind right now. I worked for hours on my resume and cover letter....obsessed with it.....go figure. I'm not going to give up! Money is tight but for now I can wait a little bit to return to nursing. One day I will reply and say, "I got a job!"

Where did you find jobs like that? I don't even know where to look. I live in such a small area that I don't know what kind of places to look. I know I to am not ready to give up my nursing. Please suggest something
