| Let down again! I had some nurses tell me to look for employment in substance abuse facilities. Well, I tried and was turned down flat!!! What can I do?? All I wanna do is be a nurse!!! I am not a bad person!! I just have the disease of addiction which is just like any other disease!! I've inpatient treatment and still see my counselor frequently!! The board treats me like a hard criminal!!! |

| Re: Let down again! Why didn't they hire you in Substance abuse area? Just curious, cause I will be looking for a job in December, and was going to apply to substance abuse centers... I am scared about finding a job with a conditional license. it seems like it is a hard thing to do. Good luck |

| Re: Let down again! Off the cuff, the one reason that I can think of would be this: In substance abuse we will be dealing with patients with whom we have a lot in common. I was all gungho to work in substance abuse when I first got clean and looking back now I was so squirrely that I could not have used good judgement and would have empathized tooo much; I would have been detrimental to both them and me. On the contrary, in a few years down the road nurses such as ourselves would have a lot to offer to the field of substance abuse and addiction nursing. I hope that makes sense. GOD bless you both.
