| Legal/Health Help? RN in Alaska facing felony charges for one-time diversion is being threatened with inprisonment for theft of $25,000 worth of narcotics (an impossiblity) but she did divert narcs, and DA in small town is buddies with hospital administrators. She is scared, needs advice but I'm an RPh. I know where I'd turn in my state, but where would a nurse find help in AK? Is the a nursing organization that she can reach out to? Thank you |

| Your friend needs to turn herself into her state borad of nursing and get into a recovery program ASAP. If she goes to court things will look a lot better to the judge if she's in recovery. That should include proof of at least 1 aa/na meeting a day. Being an addict in recovery myself I can tell you that chances are she did not do a 1 time diversion, it's just that this was the time she got caught. I was stealing the wastes for over two years and I never was caught because the drugs I signed out always went to my patients. I voluntarily entered diversion and actually admitted all of my behavior to my state board. I've now been sober 18 mos and feel wonderful. I did post a note here earlier for another person seeking legal advice you should read that. Peace Mischif |
