During my diversion days, I worked in critical care. And, I too thought that any nurse outside of acute care wasn't a real nurse. So here I am, working as an MDS Coordinator and Charge Nurse in a long-term care setting LOL! The way I went about getting this job was, during the interview I was honest. The place that hired me was also desperate for help but that's beside the point

Also, I recently spoke with a DON on the phone as a pre-interview. I told her about my situation. She said "I appreciate your honesty" and asked me to come in for an interview!
2 thoughts came to mind here:
1. TINSTASFL ( there is no such thing as a free lunch)
2. In order to make money you need to spend money.

In a perfect world, I would love to provide this for free, but since I am not blessed with money, I don't have the ability to pay for this out of my own pocket and keep a roof over my head, food on my table, and other basic necessities.

As I said, this is not in any way something that will be used by all nurses. THere are those who can see past the fees and realize that the end result will be money in their pocket and in a faster time frame than trying it alone. Others will like the idea that they can get advice on what to say, and be helped in how to do so.

Re: Employment help services

Hi,

I have a question for you; how do you feel about the fact that if any nurse has some sort of diciplnary action against her license and is on the diciplinary list on the dept of health can now be googled by just entering her name. If thats not bad enough, they now provide every incident in full detail for all to see. You might already know this, but if you don't, go on to the diciplinary action list and click on a name that is highlighted in blue and tell me what you think.
Now enter HIPPA. If a person with a chronic anxiety disorder and suffers from addiction, isn't that considered a medical problem? yes! Doesen't that violate our privacy R/T rights HIPPA?

Re: Employment help services

Fortunately for us in MA, if we comply with the BON's contract, there is no disciplinary action i.e., there will never be a "black mark" on our record. My record has no indication of "disciplinary action". What the MA BON does, is offer us their 5 year program as an alternative to disciplinary action. When I first started this journey a couple years ago, I was angry and resentful at the BON members, thinking they were out to get us nurses. Thinking they were mean and rude and could care less. I've since come to realize they have a job, and that is to protect patients. GAWD knows I certainly wasn't doing a good job of protecting them when I was using and diverting. I'm really grateful that the BON intervened and gave me the choice & option to follow their program. Yes it's a pain and has caused some hardship; but I've got my life back. I couldn't ask for more...
