Re: want to become a nurse

I have been a nurse for 32 years. Currently active duty with US Army. You will find narrow minded people everywhere. In general I have had few problems. None from my patients or their family. Some from female nurses. Would not let that stop me from entering the profession.

Stay in the Navy and become a nurse!

These nurses work in hospitals in the UK to keep up their general skills, going out with the military when required.

I have worked with Army Navy and Air Force at Peterborough Hospital. These nurses are the best! stay within the military and fulfill your dream.

I worked with the Army and the Police before coming into nursing. I am now a School Nurse completing my specialist degree.

The two issues you'll want to learn the most about are:

Male Gender Bias (by nurses, patients, the public)

"Nurse's Eating Their Young."

It's something every male nurse needs to deal with, some have a more difficult time than others.

I would not let it deter you if nursing is what you really want to do. I would read some Nurse's views of the nursing profession. It will give you some food for thought and help you decide if nursing is really for you.

Hope that is helpful to you.
