Uniforms vs. Scrubs

I'm a new nursing student and while in school I am working as a CNA. I've been looking for a uniform and all I can find are scrubs. Anyone know where I can get a regular uniform? Scrubs as I understand it are for those that assist in in/outpatient surgeries and are changed into prior to those procedures. Since when are they the common garb worn by nurses, male or female, as a uniform? It's been a long time since I've worked in the field. Can someone bring me up to date?

Thanks,

Jerry

Re: Uniforms vs. Scrubs

I've been a nurse for 27 years and problably worn scrubs for 20 of those!
Most Drs offices hospitals and clinics wear scrubs as uniforms now.

Re: Uniforms vs. Scrubs

Use google's search and search for nursing uniforms-- surely some online store will still carry whites someplace.

I've worked in critical care for the last 20 years, worn scrubs the entire time. I usually raid the hospital scrub supply in the cath lab, or O.R. for a fresh and free selection of new "uniforms" whenever needed.

Hello Jerry,

Scrubs are perfectly acceptable in most places. They'll probably have "color" codes you'll need to adhere to, but that's the only restriction in facilities I've worked at.

Try http://www.4nursinguniforms.com there's a list of Nursing Uniform companies there to choose from.

So, your the reason the OR Staff never has enough scrubs to go around It is for this reason I wear my own scrubs to the OR, as well as so do others, so yes it is an acceptable practice. Nevertheless, if folks that don't work in the OR would stay out of the scrubs intended for the OR Staff, then maybe I would not need to wear my own scrubs into the OR.

Re: Uniforms vs. Scrubs

Sorry, I'm not sure if I understand...I didn't know there was a difference? What do you consider a uniform vs. Scrubs?

I guess we're lucky, our nursing program tells us what and where to buy our uniforms, no exceptions.
