Smile Men Nurses - Please take this survey!

Gentlemen:

As you may know, men represent a minority within nursing that is not well understood. As the number of men in this profession increases, it is important to appreciate your unique characteristics and opinions. The better that issues and challenges men face in nursing are understood, the easier it will be for administrators, managers, and nurse educators to provide for uniquely male needs and preferences in this profession.

Please click through to

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=g0GK5Hv%2bYV7f01hsgj67GQ%3d%3d

to access a survey of men in nursing. It asks 42 questions about your characteristics, behaviors, and perceptions of your status within nursing. It should take 15 minutes or less to complete.

I am asking men nurses with internet access to complete the same form – so please forward a cut-n-paste of this page to your men colleagues. This survey provides you with an opportunity to share your experiences and views on being a man in the nursing profession.

There are few risks to you for completing this survey. Your identity will not be attached to the survey, and no one (including me) will be able to identify you based on your answers. Everyone's answers will be pooled, and only group results will be reported. If you write a comment to the final question, I may use a direct quote or paraphrase what you wrote in a later report, but this won't be useable to identify you in any way.

If you click through to the survey, that will act as your acknowledgment of informed consent. You don’t have to participate, of course, and there will be no repercussions if you choose not to participate. However, the results will be more reflective of men’s nursing experiences if more men do choose to take the survey. I appreciate your willingness to help!

If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me at my email address below, or my advisor for this study at Duquesne University, Dr. M. A. Thurkettle, thurkettlem@duq.edu, or Dr. Paul Richer, Chair of the Duquesne University Institutional Review Board at (412) 396-5081.

Thank you for reading this note and for your participation if you decide to take the survey!

Cordially,

Anita Evangelista, MSN APRN-BC FNP
