OK.. I think I'm better suited to answer this question considering that I'm a male nurse and I'm homosexual.

In the area that I live and work in, there are few male nurses period, but to be a 'gay' male nurse I thought I had my job cut out of me. To be quite honest, I have never had a group of 'friends' as strong as I do in the hospital I work at. Most, if not all, of the nursing staff know about my sexual orientation and they don't care. As we are taught in school, to be 'non-judgemental', most nurses follow this or they couldn't/wouldn't be a 'good' nurse. There are many, many things we see in the nursing field that we sometimes don't agree with or we feel is not really ethical.

I try to keep my sexual orientation to myself and keep a certain level of professionalism. Professionally speaking, nobody should talk about there sexual preferences in the work field so its quite easy to just easily keep quite about my orientation. Although, I quite often have a hard time dodging questions the female nurses throw at me. LoL

Being a nurse is one of the greatest feelings I have ever felt, no matter what gender or sexual orientation you might be... nothing can change the fact that you are a nurse.

I agree with MagRedC5.....it may sound strange coming from military guys but being in the Navy changed my outlook on people and not just nurses. When I left my small Texas town (very narrow minded prejudiced) to join the Navy I had a lot to learn about people. I learned to care about peoples character and not their skin color, religion or sexual orientation. Like anyone else we tend to gravitate toward people who think like us and have the same interests. Believe it or not I have a friend who is gay "I think" (don't ask/don't tell) who enjoys golf like me and we play quite often. Of course there are folks you don't like and it doesn't have to be because they are gay or have a different pigment. You just don't like them or as someone told me one time, "I just don't like your face". Whole other story.
