| m vs f.... an issue of respect ok guys, call me crazy, do the doctors tend to treat you differently than the women nurses? I find that even though I am the one with the least amount of experience most MD's see me (or other males) as the go to person and also allow me greater latitude and more respect. Is it just my twisted perspective coated with delusional grandosity (is that a word?) or does this really take place? clem |

| aKa MagRedC5 | Re: m vs f.... an issue of respect Well, when I worked in the OR [at Seton Medical Center] as both an RN Circulator and a CST [before becoming an RN] I noticed the female staff had an easier time with the surgeons. For one, some [not all] of the female staff would flirt with the surgeons in kind of an innocent way. In fact, some of the surgeons preferred to have all female staff during a case. Needless to say, I always hated this bias behavior. I have never seen this go on outside the OR in other hospital departments. Now, as an RN in the Army Nurse Corps specializing in ICU I have noticed both male & female MD's will sometimes give me more eye contact than my female peers. This is only when wearing hospital scrubs, otherwise in regular Army uniform respect is immediately given based on rank, no matter the gender. Although, no mattter the gender in scrubs, or military uniform mutual respect is shared in the Army Medical Department between MD's & RN's. In fact, it is possible for an RN to hold a higher rank than an MD. This one of the many reasons I prefer to be an Army Nurse, rather than a civilian RN.
