| Re: I\'m the new guy Yea, I read it. I thought it was ridiculous and very insulting! A lot of female nurses really do feel that way...That's what bothers me the most. I'd also be willing to bet a lot of females on this board feel that way (only they're too PC to admit it). I'm not ashamed of what I do, but it does bother me how men in nursing are socially degraded. Before I became a nurse, I worked in a factory as a machine operator. You'd see female machine operators, forklift drivers, etc, and you wouldn't think twice about it. But when a man becomes a nurse, all of a sudden everybody questions his sexuality! That's probably my biggest gripe, the connotations attached to the word-NURSE. But I'm getting carried away. I actually read the whole thread and I understand the post was in good fun, OR WAS IT?! |

| Super Moderator | Re: I\'m the new guy Hello Steve, Welcome to the board. You can read a bit more about gender bias here: Male Gender Bias - Entrance to No Mans Land by Nurseman Are you a male and thinking about entering the world of nursing? Have you ever wondered why they're so few men in nursing? If you are young, single ... http://www.epinions.com/srvc-review-...39E61A2D-prod2 Gender Bias Against Male Nurses: http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/gender ************************************************** **** It does generate a lot of hard feeling among all involved. Starting out in LTC to get your feet wet? Where are you planning on going with nursing? Where do you see yourself working in 5-10 years? Andrew Lopez, RN http://www.4nursing.com |
