help, been slandered

recently i received a letter from the nrsg board saying a complaint was filed against my license for potential substance abuse. after talking to the first board member who tried to blackmale me into joining the cando program, i nicely declined the cando. finally i talk to the woman who is investigating me. you get investigated when you don't voluntarily join cando. but if you join cando, they drop everything. makes perfect sense, right. i think not. so my investigator tells me it was a verbal complaint and all she says is that someone complained that i use pot regularly and passed my prior drug screens by using someone else's urine. i am still flabbergasted @ what i have heard and frankly really pissed off. i have never felt so low in my life, bitter towards the world and angry @ an anonymous person. since the board takes forever with investigating, i have gotten a lawyer who is an rn. the lawyer tells me this happens a lot and to male nurses no less. i hate the term male nurse, but i feel like one now. i feel like some tea totaler woman has it out for me. anyone else out there have this happen to them? if so will i be able to face this accuser in the future in court? b/c i plan to find out no matter how long it takes. you just don't do this to someone as far as i am concerned.

We have had a nurse post something similar not too long ago. Someone wrote into the nursing board claiming he/she would come into work stoned or something to that matter. That nurse was asked to do something similar, but I'm not sure how everything turned out. I scrolled through the forums and found that post, so you may want to try and contact that person and see if they have any advice. You can find that post in our "General Nursing Forum" which is at the very top of our Main Index. If you scroll down it is titled "Would Like advice from someone whos been there" and it was originally posted on 11/14/03 by Paddler. Last response to it was on the 10th of this month. Maybe you can PM this person or see if they posted another email address in their profile for you to contact them by. I hoe you can find the answers you are looking for, and everything works out for you. Keep us posted.

Re: help, been slandered

bikern77 has your attorney been able to find out who your accuser was at least? I'm glad you have a lawyer so you can get help defending yourself. It's very frightening how little it takes to threaten a nurse's career anymore. Please document everything & let us know what happens next!

I'm not a guy, but this is an issue that matters to all nurses no matter what gender!

Keep us posted. I'm especially interested as my significant other is a male nurse and has recently run into a problen that a female nurse would never encounter...which really sucks...but that's life..we'll deal with it.
Glad you have a lawyer. Again, keep us posted.

Re: help, been slandered

Having worked in many states as a travel RN and remembering many of the P/P with the boards, accusers(sp?) can remain anonymous if he/she wishes. It sucks, but it's the same for most government agencies. No one would want to bring forth a problem if they knew they would be identified, but on the other hand, it allows for bogus claims.

Best of luck to you.

Re: help, been slandered

Hi there;

It doesn't matter if you are a male or female. Some people can be very vindictive. I know you are very angry and justifiably so, but if you don't pull yourself together you will end up doing yourself more harm than good. I mean this with good intent. I can't see why you cannot face your accuser. We have a right to know who they are. Sounds like the board needs to be put on the hot spot too! They need to be held acountable, as well. We do have federal courts too. Someone is threatening your livelihood. This is not something even the board of nursing should be allowed to handle with such disregard and malicious intent. Your attorney needs to get with it and if he/she has to - be bold and start a precedence! Don't think revenge think much bigger than that! Do it the smart way. Just in case you don't know, Jesus Christ is no match. Not sure how you feel about that last comment, but I know him to be real! Cannon
