Ben Stiller

Did Ben Stiller seem like he would make a good male nurse in " Meet the Parents"1 Sorry just a funny post. DO you think he portrayed the male nurse community well?

Re: Ben Stiller

I think the fact that all the other characters in the movie made fun of him for being a male nurse was pretty crappy.....

Ben Stiller was only called a "male nurse" in this movie so that the writer could poke fun at men in the profession. He was never seen at work so he could've been anything.

Even though I've not seen the movie in it's entirety, I hate that movie, which tries to lay down a negative stereotype of male nurses. The only positive that comes to mind is the character was heterosexual. Now, before anyone has a fit ... I'm just saying that one of the stereotypes of male nurses is being homosexual. Frankly, no one should be labeled with any stereotype. An individual should not be judged by any label, rather by individual merits, or faults. At least, the movie indicated that male nurses can be heterosexual. I'm not saying something wrong with being homosexual, just saying all male nurses should not be labeled as such.

... okay, I'll put down my shovel now so I won't dig myself a deeper hole

I see nothing wrong with being called a male nurse. IMHO, it provides clarity to the fact both males & females can be nurses. At length. I had to explain to an Iraqi Linguist [aka interpreter] that in the United States we have both male & female nurses. He thought I was one of the Docs. When I first told him I was a nurse he started to laugh. The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up. Yet, I explained to him that nursing in our culture was not limited to females.

Re: Ben Stiller/ I have no clue at all as far as nursing. I do not know what to do

I am completing my MBA concentration in healthcare management (I will be 96% complete by summer of 08). I am Asian Indian and previously owned a real estate business for 10 years. My hobbies are improving historic houses, Koi ponds (built 3 so far), landscaping, nature, traveling, and natural food, cooking, traveling and making new friends. I am scared to death to apply for the MSN program since I have not seen any Indian male nurses. I am not sure how minority male nurses get treated during the process in the nursing school. Also with MBA/MSN, can anyone decide to go into administration without practicing clinical aspect of it? What are the benefits of having MBA and MSN instead of just having a MBA with healthcare administration? Are there any Indian male nurses in this field? I would also like to get some information to the universities that are two year program for non-nurses and enjoy a diverse body of students. Preferably a nursing program, where 50% are males instead of only 10 to 11% standard male enrollment in most universities.

You clearly are energetic enough to challenge the US nursing market. Feel free to pursue whatever education you desire. Furthermore, your sex really has little to do with your success in the nursing field. The canvas is blank and you have the brush. Paint.

Good luck

Look MagRed, you havn't even scratched away the dust bud, don't apolagise for voicing your views. I think I can speek for all of us here and say that I see you as a Nurse of very high quality and integrity so don't wory about it, I got the gist of what you were saying and my brother, Who is homosexual (GAY as he puts it) didn't see anything wrong with the way you said it so relax.

As far as the movie goes, It insulted my intellagence with it's debockled reteric and astute absurdities, but my wife loved it and she is currently a nursing student. What that sais about the movie is anyone's guess but my oppinion stands as is.

waiting for spring Charlie

Unhappy Re: Ben Stiller

Just look at this photo on this! website. It says it all. The man nurse is not alone with the child. How sexist! If the female nurse was alone with the child no one would question the photo.
