What I need to do

I'm currently a senior in high school and I would like to go to college to become a midwife....but I don't think I have the quafications to be one. I wouldl like to know what class and things I need to take. Or who I can talk to, to help me out.

Re: What I need to do

as a high school student I wouldn't think you did have the qualifications. There are lay mid-wives but those are not nurses and in many areas of the country are not legal. To be a nurse midwife you first have to go to nursing school then to midwife school after you have worked in labor and delivery for awhile to get general labor experience. Midwives are used in many different settings but practice laws vary from state to state. In the state I work they are disappearing because of malpractice insurance as the midwife has to have the backup of an OB and the OB's are pulling that backing d/t the insurance issues.
