i am writing a research paper on pediatric nursing...and i was wanting to know if someone could tell me what you have to do in order to become a nurse. i know first you have to graduate highschool and college, but what kinds of tests do you have to take, and things like that. and the score that you have to get. i would really appreciate any info you can give me. and i actually need to know this very soon... thank you.

It really depends on what type of Pediatric Nursing you're referring. I am an extended care pediatric private duty LPN in Louisiana. (Is that a mouthful, or what?) I finished the LPN classes at a Vocational-Technical School in 15 months, but went on to get my Associate in Applied Technology...An extra 3 months...No biggie. (That's not something you have to have to do the job I'm doing, but it helped me be more prepared.) I'm currently in an online class to get my Bachelor of Science in Health Care Services. (I am only in my 4th week right now.) I have been doing private duty for 3 years now. I've thought about getting an RN degree, but I don't really want to lose my one-on-one patient care contact. I have one daughter, but I've got lots of babies! I love them all like they were mine! A couple of my "babies" aren't normally considered babies. One was 19 and the other is 20.
Oh...and by the way. To pass the classes in Louisiana and I think everywhere else, you must have at least a (C) average. After you graduate from school, you must go to State Board and take the N-CLEX test. You must pass that with at least an 80% (C).
There is a lot of information you must absorb, but you can't allow yourself to think your "sponge" or brain is full. You should always look for new technology in your field of preference. Although, it wouldn't hurt to try to keep abreast of a little of everything.

I am an RN and work in a pediatric office. After college (2 or 4 year in major nursing) you have to sit for the boards NCLEX-RN. After that you can start looking for jobs. In the hospital you learn a lot of hands-on skills (if you are lucky), in a private office you tend to do a lot of triage, shots, talking to patients. You get to know them....they all come back....that's the fun part. My patients are from 3 day olds to 21 year olds......some a little older....they didn't want to leave.....
