    More Education

For those of you wanting to go on in school; here is a little of what I've found in my search: I'm 54 years old with an Associate degree in Nursing and wanted to find classes that acknowledge the needs of adult students returning to school. I have college credits from here and there and wanted to have them recognized. Also, I know that there has been an explosion in reputable on-line degree programs, many of them RN to BSN specific.
The best guide book I found is "Bear's Guide to College Degrees by Mail and Internet". These guys have been around for nearly thirty years and are the best. They publish other guides, too. I found the book at Borders for 15.00. In the back of the book is a reference to a program called "Degree Consulting Services" You send them your transcripts and any other educational history you want considered and pay them 90.00. They review your records and provide you with an approximately 10 page letter with recommendations with the best programs for you, career opportunities, sources of financial aid, responses to personal questions, etc. They also provide unlimited phone follow-up. My stuff is with them now and I'll post my experience with them when I get my response in about ten days. My initial phone conversation with the evaluator left me feeling relieved to have this type of assistance.

The only problem I see with this type of service is that even if I tell someone my needs they don't know what's best for me...I've had the personal experience of this.
I guess I'd rather take the time to find out for myself and then decide what will work for me.

Bob I'm interested to hear how well their help works out for you. If it actually does good for you it may be helpful to others and I'm always interested in adding useful things to my site if it helps other nurses so please do let us know ok? If your experience is good I may want to do a book review and a brief bit about their service on the site so others are aware of it- and if their service is not all it's supposed to be let us know too- we may save other nurses $90. Thanks!

Definitely keep us posted on your experience working with them. I know so many nurses in this age bracket that really want to further their education, but who have found the process of investigating their options daunting, and have basically given up. If it does what it promises to, it would be worth the $90.00 to many.
