    Nursing Politics

:frustrated: Can anyone tell me if the theory about "perception is reality" is always true in nursing. I was told many times if you make a mistake even a minor mistake that you are often times labeled and it is vey hard to change the perception. I crossed a charge nurse and a doctor over a poorly staffed assignment and was written up over a ridiculous situation. The doctor was angry because a CT prep wasn't started on time because the patient was nauseated. The antimedic was given and I was waiting for it to take effect and in the mean time I was taking care of 4 other really sick patients. This cloud has haunted me for 1 year and it's not getting better. Do I leave or do I try and "prove" myself? I feel like my growth is stunted here. It looks like no opportunities for advancement at this time.

A year is a long time have this "cloud" hanging over your head. Sounds like you did the right thing by your patient and that's why we're nurses. The Doctor sounds like he's got his own "stuff" going on and took it out on you. Stick with it - if you leave it's a win for the bad guys!
