Exclamation Looking for advice

My mother is an RN and was working in the same job for 12 years. She wanted to move, and she then got a new job in charge of other nurses in a medical/surgical unit. Before the job was attained the employer was very nice and encouraging, after employment had been attained her employer became unkind and rude. My mother has been in management before, and yet this employer is constantly telling her she is making mistakes and cannot do anything correctly. Blame has been befalling my mother since she has entered employement there. She has corrected my mother in a rude manner in front of her employees. On top of this, because of the disrespect given to her by her boss, the other employees who are in her care no longer respect her, and have begun to speak of her behind her back. She just moved in this new city a year and a half ago and does not wish to move, and there are no other RN jobs in the area. Do you have any advice on how to respond to this situation? Advice that I can give her?

Re: Looking for advice

I admire you for caring enough about your mother to reach out for advise that might help her. I'm sorry she is in such a position as the one you describe. Are you really sure there aren't ANY other places around your town for RN's to work? Even the smallest rural areas usually have nursing homes, doctor's offices, public health clinics, home health agencies, and other potential places RN's could work besides the hospital. With your mother's experience as a nurse I'm sure she's found a solution by now but if not you might suggest that she look around the hospital she's working at now for a different unit to work on and have a heart to heart with the director of nurses about why she would prefer to change units.... or else look outside the hospital for a job.

Best wishes & good luck to your mom
