I have been accepted into the Practical Nursing Program at a local tech. college. For the past couple of days I have been stressed to the max. I haven't been able to eat, sleep, or socialize as usual. The job I currently have is just a warehouse job, but I make 10.27 hr. and this is paying my bills. I am 28, divorced, and have two boys living on our own. My concern is quiting the job I have to go to school full time and not be able to pass or even worse not like what I thought I would love. I would just like some advice on rather keeping my job I have now is the best or going on with the nursing.

where do you want to be next year or in 2 years? In a job that's paying the bills or still wondering what to do? If you are willing to work there's always a job that will just pay the bills...do you want a job or a career? My moto what's going to be best for you and yours?

Maybe you could consider going to school part time and keeping your job. As far as liking it you will only find out when you start working as a LPN, I can guarantee more opportunities in that field though.

I have been going through the same thing. I am 30 and I am the main financial support in my family, but I am not happy with my job. Not only that, there are many people who would love to work where I am working and get my pay. I am also afraid of leaving because I am safe from any layoffs etc. This is the time to decide if you are going to stay in your old life or take the leap. I decided to take the leap.
I am finishing up the prerequisites before I get to the nursing classes. This way my tuition will be lower when I have less money, and I can focus on the really important stuff. As far as paying my bills goes, I don’t want to, but I will go work as a nurse assistant in a nursing home until I get my degree. Before I quit my job I will get a job at a nursing home first, then after I am comfortable I am going to quit my safety net and move on.
Check around your area and see what the nursing homes are paying. Chances are that they will pay better than you are getting now, and may even pay for you to become a nurse aid. Also, check to see if they have weekend shifts. This way you can spend more time with your children through the week. You can go to school when they do. You can also have a family study time so they can see how important school is by your example. Hope this helps. Lots of luck.
