information on schools

hi. i'm wanted to be a nurse forever, and now that my time has come to go to school and become one. i dont know what to do first. my school only allows 16 people in the nursing program a year, so i'm looking at going out of state to go into the nursing program. the thing is...my college advisor confused the crap out of me, and i dont know what to do first. what nursing program do i need to go into first?? and do any of you have any suggestions for schools?? i would really appreciate it. i live in alaska, so its hard to go and visit schools that i'm interested in. if anyone could help me i would appreciate it. thanks so much!!!

Re: information on schools

Where in AK do you live? Some states offer reciprocity with AK - as in state tuition - you might check out WA and OR for this. There are websites on colleges within the states.

I would reccomend going with a community college for the nursing school piece and pre-requisites. Then transfer to state or university for the BSN. Build your own program that you can grow with it. For instance - take all the math you need to qualify for the BSN program (don't stop at ADN minimal requirements in the pre-req phase) that way - IF you choose to go on you aren't a whole year behind in just math to enter into BSN programs.

Good luck.

Re: information on schools

Thank you so much for the information. I live in Fairbanks, and i really have been wanting to go to school in Washington or Oregon, so that works out rather nicely. Thanks for the advice on which program, and about going to a community college. so are you saying that i should get my ADN at a community college and then my BSN at a university?
well thanks for all your help!
