Re: i have questions about RN's- answer me bak

Hi Monique,
I have been an RN for 21 yrs. now, time flies!! I work in a city hospital on a Cardiac Telemetry unit and yes I do enjoy it. It is rewarding to see patients progress from sick to going home fully independent or moreso than when they came in. Drawbacks to the profession are a shortage of nurses and salary lower than what we're worth being that we take care of these patients 24hrs a day. Also no automatic retirement plan after 20yrs like the other professionals such as police officers, corrections officers, firefighters etc.. I haven't recieved any "special training" perse, but have furthered my education on my own. I pursued my Legal Nurse Consulting degree, am certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support, EKG certified, and recieved certification in Rehab.
Despite the fact that "burnout" is a high risk in this profession, I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to work hard, and enjoys helping people. It can be an extremely rewarding field, and is very diverse, an area for everyone. Hope this helps, good luck with your project. gail
