I am a new RN who needs advice

I have had several negative experiences so far with my brand new nursing career. I am currently in orientation on my fourth job. My fear is being asked to do something I haven't been trained to do. previously that was the reason why I left a job. I know experience is the best teacher but is there a how to book that advises RN's about things like when to and not to call the doctor, dealing with bad preceptors, and skill training? Thanks.

Re: I am a new RN who needs advice

I hear you......I know how it is.... good for you that you didn't give up. Hope you have malpractice insurance. I wouldn't trust the hospital too much. I went to private practice nursing because I found that nurses didn't want to teach nurses. A lot of them acted bad most of the time.. NOT ALL ...try find a nice one..... get a book on charting!!!! Cover your butt! If it isn't charted it isn't done. Hospitals are supposed to have guidelines on patient treatments (intranet or paper) try to find those...they will give you hints when to call the doctor ...etc....if you think patient safety is in danger go to the charge nurse or call doc.....
hope this helps...good luck....more luck than me....the patients will thank you if you can stick it out!
