how to become a RN

Hello. I am a new member on this site. I have posted a message but not sure if I did so properly.

I am very interested in becoming a nurse. I already have a bachelor's degree and do not have the time to go through the whole BSN route. I have only been able to find information in getting a BSN or some vocational training colleges to become a LPN.

Someone, anyone, please, please... what are the steps in becoming a RN? How long does it take? Where should I start looking? My gosh, do I need to get another bachelor's degree?

Thank you.

Re: how to become a RN

You have some of the core requirements for a BSN I'm sure.
You will need to take science and nursing courses required for the BSN.. It will probably take you 2 years maybe less. You need to contact the university or college you plan to attend. And yes you will have another bachelor's degree.

But so what. Hopefully, it won't take you the full 2 years to complete. You would have a Bachelor's in "whatever" you have now and a BSN.. I don't see that as a hinderance.

BTW what do you have your bachelor's in now? Knowing that might be of some help for us to help you here.

There are "accelerated" nursing programs for people with degrees already that can award a degree and let you sit for the NCLEX in as little as a year. To work as a nurse, you don't necessarily need a BSN. Associate Degree Nurses and Diploma nurses make bout the same as a BSN in most places.

I'd visit http://www.4nursingschools.com and look under your state for schools local to you.

http://www.allnursingschools.com is a good resource also though its listings are a bit outdated.

There is a nursing faculty shortage meaning there are limited slots for applicants. I'd apply quickly and to as many schools are feasible. Be sure to ask about "waiting lists" when you inquire.

Wish you luck!
