Endometritis treatment

I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about Endometritis and how you treat it. I had placenta left behind for 2 weeks and it caused Chronic Endometritis, I was told by other women that had the same problem and they said as soon as the retained placenta was removed they were taken to the hospital and given a d&c and then put on IV antibiotics...Is this how you treat endometritis due to retained placenta? how dangerous is it if you go without any treatment? If anyone can tell me something you would really put my mind at ease...Thanx
