Re: Differences in RNs? the difference in hospital nurses is the department they work. Each unit does have special training. Where I work in general there is no pay difference between units for a nurse that's worked at the hospital for the same amount of time. The difference comes in years of experience or if you are in charge or a manager. Different areas of the country pay different just like teachers in different parts of the country make different rates. Then travelers make a different amount but that also depends on the speciality, experience and area of the country.

Re: Differences in RNs? In my facility, there is a difference in pay from Med-Surg w/o telemetry; telemetry; and ICU. I work on a step down telemetry unit, and on the times that I am pulled to the ICU, I have been paid the difference.

Re: Differences in RNs? i was recently offered 2 positions at the same facility, one for dialysis and one for telemetry... the pay was the same for both positions... the offer was based on my educational level (diploma) how many years i had been a nurse (15) and my experience... having a bsn would have meant a higher offer... now working as an agency nurse, it's different... i make the same amount as a bsn if working in the same specialty (my license is the same as hers)... and different specialties have different pay rates... dialysis $38.50 hour (soon to be renegotiated) med surg $40.00 hour (renogiated in January, was $35) tele/icu $45.00 (renogotiated in January, was $37)

Re: Differences in RNs? I would be highly stressed in ICU. I've only been pulled there a couple of times and I get to give the charcol. But put someone who doesn't do L&D with me and they might be highly stressed too just depends on what you know

Re: Differences in RNs? don't make me do that dialysis either I only did hemo in clinicals so all I did was watch and got pulled once as a NA to a renal unit where exchanges were done at night and I couldn't go in the room when it was being done only the nurse assigned to the patient could go in the room. It did make for a pretty easy night for me as I couldn't go in anywhere.
