56 years old LVN, turned down by employers Does anyone know of any jobs available that take women my age. Here in Corpus Christi, Texas I am having a hard time finding work as an LVN. I see it as age discrimination, but there is no way to prove it.

Re: 56 years old LVN, turned down by employers That's hard to believe. Usually LVN's can get work right away in nursing homes any way

Re: 56 years old LVN, turned down by employers Yeah, I can not believe it myself. I so want to work in my field. I even applied in a different city, I was turned down when I told them how long I've been in the nursing field (32 yrs.)

Re: 56 years old LVN, turned down by employers Are U sure. Do U think that maybe it is because they dont have openings or that they have a lot of people applying for the posiitons? Sounds like the job market is tight. Try going to Florida or California. Lots of openings in nursing homes there. Thought there was a nursing shortage. Didnt know employers were picking, choosing and refusing. How long have you lived in Corpus Christi for?

Re: 56 years old LVN, turned down by employers There is so much going on out there in the job market. Some times they just don't think you will fit in with the team they already have, maybe they have an over abundance of older nurses and are looking for some young blood. Then there are the places that just want some one untill their own graduates or pass boards. There are also, people in HR, DON etc that are in school and are doing interviews so they advertise just so they can interview you. The list goes on.

| Super Moderator | Re: 56 years old LVN, turned down by employers Sounds like you might have an actionable issue. Visit this site to do some research: "Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), which outlaws workplace discrimination on the basis of age if the employee is 40 years of age or older. The Age Discrimination Act applies only to private employers with 20 or more employees, federal state and local governments, and employment agencies with 25 or more members. Many states have laws banning age discrimination no matter what the person's age--check with your state department of labor to find out about the law where you live." http://www.malenursemagazine.com/discrimination.html Let us know how it works out. | Re: 56 years old LVN, turned down by employers In the LTC facility where I work, I am a spring chicken and I am 42. We have many nurses who are in their 60's and 70's and they are great nurses. Many have been LPN's for 25+ years. I enjoy working with them. They have knowledge and more experience than some RN's. Sorry to hear that you are having such problems with an employer. I know here in Illinois, especially where I work, we would love to have you! Good luck in your pursuit. I wish you well. |
