Welcome to the Case Presentation Forum

Within this forum you will find interactive case studies that will be updated on a weekly basis. These case studies will be from various areas of nursing including, but not limited to: Dialysis Nursing, Critical Care, Med/Surg, OB/Gyn Nursing, Flight Nursing, ER Nursing, etc.

Hopefully, this forum will help sharpen your critical thinking skills and foster the sharing of knowledge between nurses and nursing students of all walks and specialties.

The first case study is currently under development. Check back this week.

Feel free to post your own case studies as well.

How This Works
Whenever a case study is presented, it is your job to come in and ask questions. For instance, if you want a new updated blood pressure, just ask; and the person posting the case study will give you one. If there is a lab test you want, the same thing applies. If you want an EKG, just ask.

Rules for Posting a Case Study
If you post a case study, you must keep the answer(The underlying condition) a secret for 1 week. At the end of the week, you can then post the answer to your case study, and we can all compare notes and do a comparative review of treatments and what could have been avoided or changed.

The Case Study Template

Below is outlined, a template on how to present your case study. Simply copy and paste this template into a new thread and fill in your information. Also, please include initial vitals in all patients, unless you are making a specific point in not doing so. Also, if you ask for something like Nitro on a pt with a BP of 90/60, this will not be carried out.

1) Initial Presentation
Post your introduction to your case study here. Provide us with
details such as patient's age, sex, weight, and details about your
case.

Chief Complaint:
Post the patient's chief complaint, in his/her own words if conscious.

2) History/Allergies/Medications

List any PMhx, drug allergies, current medications. If listing the medication, try to specify what they take it for, if possible.

Common Abbrev:

PMhx = Previous Medical History
NKDA = No Known Drug Allergies
pt = Patient

4) Clinical Findings
Post within this section, your details assessment findings and presentation.

5) Discussion Points
In this section, post key points that you would like to discuss, as well
as hints to look for, etc.

Once you release the underlying condition to your case study, hold a discussion over it within the same thread. Ask users what their opinion is on the medical treatment, what could've been done or changed(if anything). Furthermore, discuss the clinical relevance of your case study and explain what kind of lessons can be learned from this situation.
