SIUE Nursing School gets 10 year accreditation

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education has awarded a ten-year accreditation to the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Nursing, the longest possible term of accreditation under the CCNE's guidelines.

In 2001, the SIUE nursing program went on probation for three years due to poor test scores. The students' average scores on the National Council Licensure Examination had fallen below state standards for two consecutive testing periods.

The CCNE had been evaluating the nursing program for the last five years following the probation period.

SIUE nursing students now average between 86 and 96 on the NCLEX exams, which is well above the state's minimum required average of 75.
