nursing student to be

I just got my acceptance letter to an lpn program and I am so excited! I'm 48 and feel I am following my hearts desire.

Congrats on your acceptance to the LPN program. I am just finishing my Rn diploma at the moment. You are sure to find it very challenging and very rewarding. Just a couple things to keep in mind to help you through, implement a strict time schedule right away with areas of each day blocked out for studying and projects, take it from me the "master procrastinator" the projects and tests sneak up on you, so it is very important to have a good schedule in place and keep on top of things. It also removes a little stress knowing what you are doing, and the less stressed you are the more you will enjoy yourself. As well ask lots of questions, no matter how silly they sound to you, better to ask than not know, and keep asking yourself why until you can't anymore. For example why does type 1 Diabetes occure? Because there is no production of insulin from the pancreas. Well why is there no insulin being produced form the pancreas. and so on, every time you come to an answer ask yourself why it occurs until you can no longer ask why.

Most of all have fun keep a sense of humour, one thing I have found as a student, having a sense of humour with teachers helps you get answers you need and solidifies a strong teacher - student relationship, having a sense of humour with staff and peers promotes a positive work environment and makes you an approachable person, people will remember you and want to work with you and help you along, and most of all have a sense of humour with your patients. It promotes their healing gives them a distraction to the situation they are in and promotes your relationship with them.

Once again Good luck I know you will enjoy it.

Wow! What great advice. I've found that to be true in my classes. One of my teachers even admitted today that he keeps looking to me and my study partner for answers in class. Why? Because we are paying attention, laugh at his jokes and ASK QUESTIONS! Most of the other "kids" in class are half asleep or instant messaging someone. Ugh.
