new here, hints? shortcuts?

Hi! I am new to this site and I wanted to get all the info I can about the "goings on" here. I am in my 3rd month of LPN school and I am doing great. The math and calculations is what's hangs me up. Math was never my strong spot. If anyone has any hints or shortcuts on anything, I would greatly accept them. Thanks a billion.

Re: new here, hints? shortcuts?

Welcome to our nursing community nrsbyheart!
Well, first of all you found just the right forum to start with. If you have any specific problem that you get hung up on post it & someone here can help you get through it. Meanwhile, for general help with Nursing Calculations, drug math etc, the student nursing resources I've put together here may help you out: http://medi-smart.com/student.htm
There are Nursing Calculators there to help you understand how to figure out dosages for pills, liquids or IV's, math help tips, tutorials, study tips from other nursing students etc... so, take a moment to check that out and then if you still need some help call on us here and we'll do our best!

How do you like your program other than the math part so far?

Sara

Have you tried the book Math For Meds. It is pretty straight forward and walks you through from elementary calculations to the harder stuff. I know there is hardly time for any extra work when you are in school but it worked for me. Good Luck.....Jeff

Another book I'd recommend is Stressed Out About Drug Math?
