    Just Got Caught

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I've just recently been fired from my job for using morphine. I started using because I suffer from debilitating depressions and I'd become suicidal. I thought if I could just make it for another hour by taking the morphine that I could survive. But, I'm happily married and have 3 beautiful children that I provide for and love deeply.

I've been a nurse for 10 years and have never used morphine up until about 3 months ago, but I became addicted quickly and it was all downhill from there.

Well...I'm new to forums altogether so I hope you'll bear with me as I learn. Just thought I'd come here for some moral support.

    Thanks, Annie

Welcome Annie! I'm new to this forum also. Know that you're definately not alone. I also started using drugs due to problems with depression. The only difference is that I took pills. There's lots of help out there for you. You'll be OK.Just hang in there! It can get frustrating sometimes but be open to suggestion, learn to take direction, and take it "one day at a time". Meanwhile, let me know if you have any questions. No one has answered mine so far, but I want you to know that if I can I will answer yours. Also, the nurses in your support group and your Nurse Facilitator are great resources. Good luck!! Leilani

    Hello Annie,

That's a bitter pill to swallow. You probably have all kinds of thoughts and worries going through your head. Will I ever work again, will I lose my license, livelihood, etc.

The important thing is to get through what's coming, you've probably got legal proceedings on horizon, financial worries, etc.

The position of most state nursing boards, is that nurses can be rehabilitated with time. If your state has a peer assistance program you may be offered that in lieu of losing your license, it depends on the circumstances of your situation.

Cooperate the best you can, you'll probably do better if you have an attorney present during the proceedings.

    Wish you luck,

Try not to become discouraged there is help. Look up your local chapter of NA and start attending meetings. Are you in recovery? Also see what kind of counceling you can get for your addiction/depression. Make phone calls and start getting connected to mental health agencies in your community. Don't let yourself fall any deeper into addiction. Its a tricky business and you need support, so get some professional councelling ASAP.

Run, don't walk to your nearest Peer Assistance Program. I stuck with deny, deny, deny, and lost everything. Now, two years clean, I'm having to petition the board and that is no fun.

Cute name. I am having similar issues. The people are right here. It takes work as with any addict. But, you can get your license back most of the time if you follow the rules. Good luck to you!

If I could make a suggestion......... you may want to not attach morphine to your signature name. If you really want to be in recovery then get free......
