| ****o, I am Richr'd Moore, a junior at the University of Southern Mississippi, who is curious about the level of involvement in patient care during OB clinicals of other males in other programs. I feel as if there is information that I am missing out on because of the few restrictions put upon me during clinicals. For example; I am not allowed to assess the pelvic area after a delivery with an episiotomy and just last week I was not allowed to assess a C-section incision because it was "low" on my patient. Does any other male student face these same restrictions and do any of you feel short changed or offended by them? Female insight is more than welcome. Do females agree or disagree with the restrictions. ![]() |

| Re: Are males in your program allowed to do more I'm a student in Iowa and in OB now. When I get to the point of assessing vaginal or breast areas there does have to be another nurse present and I think that nurse has to be female. Also I only watch this other nurse perform these tasks while she shows me what to look for. What does your school do about female caths? I haven't come across this yet but I am pretty sure they wouldn't let me do it. Basically they say if I need to know it I'll learn it on the job... |
