How far into nursing school.... can a student nurse look for a job? And, what kind of a job that would be. I still haven't applied for college and would like to volunteer once I start it. Thanks

Re: How far into nursing school.... You can work as a tech or aide whatever the facility calls them. That would get you in the door and give you some idea of what you would be in for!!

Re: How far into nursing school.... You may want to call some local nursing homes or the human resource department at local hospitals and ask where CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) classes are being given. While some facilities may provide hands on training themselves you would have better choices about where to find a part time job while in college and get somewhat better hourly pay if you're a CNA. I can't say for sure but I believe the classes are only two weeks long and many employers will reimburse the cost or pay for it if you agree to work for them once you've passed the course. Since you haven't started college yet you will have a lot of time to be able to work part time- even after you start college- because you will be taking basic educational requirements before you actually get accepted into the school of nursing. Even then you'll have some time before clinical rotations begin. Good luck!

Re: How far into nursing school.... Some hospitals actually have positions called "Student Tech" or "Student Nurse" and they'll let you work without any certificates. It's is also possibly that some places will higher you as a CNA with a CNA certificate due to the fact that your enrolled in nursing school. Oh and it is also possible to work as a MA (Medical Assistant) without any certificate as well. Just call up your local hospitals or even possibly the ones in which you do your clinical at for school and ask them what they have available. It's all about getting your foot in the door!
