FYI: New Opportunity to Train for Nursing Career

Victoria, BC (Vocus/PRWEB ) August 30, 2009 –- Vancouver Island students interested in pursuing a nursing career will have a new training option this fall as UCW Academy of Health is set to launch its brand new Practical Nursing diploma program this November in Victoria (for more information, visit http://health.ucan.ca/News).

Academy officials point to health care industry sources that indicate Practical Nurses are in high demand across the province. “The job market for practical nurses will remain strong for the next several years in British Columbia,” says President David Strong. “As current LPNs retire and our aging population increases its demand for health care services, it is expected that the need for nurses, LPNs especially, will stay high.”

The addition of the PN program expands the Academy’s range of health care training programs, which already includes programs for Community Health Care, Resident Care Attendant, Medical Records Administrator, and Addictions and Community Services Worker among others. The program will train nursing students in a hands-on learning environment with experienced practitioner-instructors. In addition, the curriculum follows the training standards outlined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (CLPNBC). “Because our nursing graduates must meet the needs of both the health care service providers and their patients, it is important that they learn the technical and practical aspects of this career field,” says Strong. “This program will teach them to do so and help them build interpersonal and problem-solving skills as well.”

The Academy launches its Practical Nursing program in Victoria on November 30, 2009. Applications are currently being accepted.
