Now how scary is the NICU....

I do not know if any other regulars here are from Canada, but here is my question...

What is the status of NICU's in the States?? I heard through the grapevine that in California they are now trying to save 22 week gestation babies and up here we will not resus. if it is under 24 weeks. I am asking only because I am moving to the States and was going to go into the NICU but do not want to stand there while someone has to pick up my jaw cause I dont know what is going on...lol...

I am a new grad at that, but we have a program in our province called Undergraduate nursing... I spent almost a year working in an NICU as a nurse (not to full scope of course) and got paid for it which equates to experience... It was an amazing opportunity and I wish there was more programs in the states like that simply because it does help 'lighten' the load especially on busy Med/Surg units... Having a 8-9 patient assignment is unnacceptable, but we do what we gotta do
