Staffing an LDRP unit

I am currently working in an LDRP unit that does an average of 800 deliveries a year. Our staffing matrix doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone have some guidelines they would be willig to share? We need some help. Thanks

Re: Staffing an LDRP unit

Funny thing about staffing for a LDRP you almost have to staff for the unexpected, 4 years ago I was working in a LDRP and we had 14 rooms and we staffed a minimum of 5-6 on days and 4-5 on nights as the nurse had to stay with the baby for 4 hours of transition that did get complicated and we eventually abandoned the LDRP concept for the LDR model and actually opened a postpartum unit and things are going smoother as of a few months ago. I hope that helps, Our ratios were Mother/ baby 3 -4 couplets to 1 nurse and 1-2 labor patients to 1 nurse and of course 1 nurse per transitioning baby got really bad on some days
