| Military Nursing Looking for some input from current or previous military nurses (any branch). My wife is currently an AF nurse, and I am one year from finishing my nursing degree. The plan at the moment is for me to start applying for an AF nurse corp commission in the next few months. We are curious about the other branches though, as my wife is not opposed to transferring into another branch (not sure how difficult that would be). Do any of the other branches tend to make rank quicker in the officer corp? I was AD AF enlisted, and it seemed like the enlisted folks in the other branches moved up way quicker than we did. One of the first things I noticed when my wife received her commission was the interactions between the officers and enlisted personnel within the AF medical community. It almost seems as though there is a complete disregard, on the part of many AF med techs, for the rank carried by the AF nurses. I understand the necessity of their close working relationship, but things that would never have been tolerated on the line side from airmen (or maybe even considered insubordination) seem to be the norm in a AF hospital. Does this hold true in the other branches as well? |
