Went to the National Cemetary in Chattanooga the other day- my stepdad was buried there in Sept. Definitely felt the mist in my eyes but also a tremendous surge of pride and respect for all those who serve.
My deepest respect goes to your father [may he RIP], as well as all Veterans... past & present.

My Update

I've mentioned this on other threads here on Ultimate Nurse, yet thought it would be appropriate to do same here, too.

I report NLT 1 OCT for PCS assignment to the Army Medical Dept. Center & School [AMEDD C&S] at FSH, San Antonio, TX. Assigned as Deputy Director of Combat Medic Training. This will be a two year non-deployable duty.

I was ready to leave active duty this JAN '09 but the Army gave me three different offers, all in Texas. I could not pass up an instructor slot.

BTW, if, anyone, or knows of anyone, that is interested in becoming an officer, or enlisted member of the AMEDD [i.e. Army HealthCare jobs] don't hesitate to send me a PM, or email me. I will be brutally honest & forthcoming in shared info.

God Bless Our Troops!

Re: My Update

CPT Barett,
Got a few young RNs who may be interested in being Army nurses,
I am too old, back too crunchy and too deaf from Mech Inf.,
1. Is there an age limit
2. Does the Army require a BSN

Loved FSH when I was there in 1983, had a blast, hope you and
your family form the same warm feelings for that town and
installation that i did.

Hello Art, it is my understanding the age max for application into the Army Nurse Corps is 46 yrs old for those with no prior military service. The AMEDD requires active duty [Active Component] ANC officers to have a BSN. Whereas, the Reserve Component only requires ADN. However, as a an RC ANC officer without a BSN would be not eligible for promotion to MAJ.

BTW, before going active duty, Active Component, I was assigned to 5501st USAH, at FSH, TX. I'm really excited about going back to FSH.

Hello Capt.

I will graduate with my ADN in May 09 at 47 y.o. I have 6y 11m active duty service. From your previous post I guess I will be eligible. The recruiter told me (via email) once I am in my junior year for BSN I could start the application process for AD.
I have read posts saying that it is easier to get in as a GN rather than an RN with experience. Any thoughts on that? Any advice in resuming my Army career as a nurse would be most appreciated.

Thank you,
Gruffy

Cary,

Glad to read the "non deployable" part. Hope things are going well!

Thanks Aaron! Yes, things are fine. In fact, wife & I found a beautiful home to buy less than two years old. We close on the house 2 March.
