sick and tired of being just an lpn

well here goes .i do not want to start an debate against lpn/rn.but here goes.i have quit several jobs due to being lied to and underpaid.only management gets the big bonuses.i live where there really is no shortage of lpns.just rns.i am working as a private duty nurse,it's okay but no good pay.i was told i would get mileage reimbursement, but then told due to me making 16.00 hr.do not qualify.then i was told ,i would work 32 hrs a week, only work 24hrs. i work midnights to eight in the morning.i agreed to do it.now i am being told,go back to school to become an rn.i have three kids, who definitely needs clothing ,shelter,an so forth.it is not stable right at this moment to go back.maybe when the kids are older i will go back.i feel i get no respect as an lpn.in spite of going to school forever ,taking out major loans to get through school.to hear you are just an lpn.are there any advancement opportunities for lpns anymore.i am considering to go back to school to be a teacher.not rn.do anyone out there have any comments.please be nice, no rude comments about lpn/rn.we have enough debates as it is.we need unity as nurses period....

With the shortage getting worse, not better, the good news is you may soon see more opportunities for you as an LPN. This shortage is like no other that we've seen in the past.

It's unfortunate that you're working in an enviromnent your not happy in. There is nothing worse than going to a job you don't like each day. Best suggestion I can make is see what other jobs are out there.

There are many more opportunities to you as an RN. If you look around, many schools are offering LPN to RN programs to help you make the transition.

I'd visit http://www.allnursingschools.com and see what is available in your area. The sooner you look into and apply the better. Many students are being turned away due to a lack of nursing faculty.

Hope you can see a brighter future on the horizon.

Re: sick and tired of being just an lpn

Hello, I'm new here. You're post caught my eye because I wanted to speak on the treatment of LPNs. I am a new grad fresh out of college. I was fortunate enough to go all the way through to get my BSN. Now I really respect LPNs and the knowledge that they bring to the table based on their years of experience. I mean, I don't see why they can't be charge nurse at times because they know so much. But what I do resent is how many LPNs treat new RN graduates. It's like they resent me because I am where a lot of them want to be. I know I make more money, but I worked hard for that right to a bigger salary. They treat me so bad just because they think I'm getting something they can't get. And the only time they speak to me is when they need a push done. Now, LPNs may feel shafted, but, I see that they don't treat people like they want to be treated. Why are LPNs so hard on new graduates?

it's nurses in general eating the young. Just keep doing your job show what you know. Ask for help when needed and hopefully they will warm up...not just the LPN but lots of people who have been around a long time
