Please help...advice is needed! Hello everyone & thanks for reading this...I have a question. I'd very much appreciate an expert's help. Here is the situation...I have a friend who is an LPN with at least 10 years of experience (in VA) and has an old relative. This relative is sick and requires medical care at home. My LPN friend offered to take care of this relative without charging fees. My question is..Can my LPN friend take doctor orders? If yes, how? Does she have to go through an RN? Please, explain. Thanks so much for your help! ![]()

Re: Please help...advice is needed! I know what an LPN can do varies from state to state, but at least in IN LPN's can take orders from a doctor. However, if she isn't going to actual "work" for her relative I don't think it would be wise for her to take orders from her relatives doctor. Also I would advise her to make sure she has insurance in case something would happen.

Re: Please help...advice is needed! I live in MO. I can do everything but initiate hanging blood, and pushing IV meds. SO...yes LPN's can take orders...all kinds of them, from everyone. I don't know though how VA's rules work.
